    Harmonics & Harmonic Load Flow Calculation Using DIgSILENT PowerFactory

    Harmonics is one of the most important subject in power system field.
    In addition, protection engineers should be able to analyse harmonics to identify the sources of harmonics and avoid the effects of harmonics on the power network equipments.
    The definition of harmonic is described as follow:

    Impacts of harmonics:
    • Harmonic currents cause additional loading / heating (esp. of transformers,motors, neutral conductors)
    • Harmonic voltages cause additional loading of capacitor banks and filters
    • Increase in peak voltage
    • Vibration of rotating machines
    • Audible Noise
    • Displacement of zero crossings, multiple zero crossings :faulty operation of some controllers
    • Interference in neighbouring telecommunication systems
